It's been a crazy summer for us up here in north China. A heat wave continues to bake the Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei region, with temperatures rising up to almost 40 degrees Celsius. Other major parts are not spared from the hellish heat either. CGTN's Natalie Pang has more.
An overdose of Vitamin D. The scorching sun is baking everything and that's not likely to let up any time soon. The mercury is climbing to over 39 degrees Celsius and bacon is well cooked without any effort. The heatwave is hitting major parts of the country, and most affected cities are in northern Hebei province.
RESIDENT WUAN CITY, HEBEI PROVINCE "As long as you go outside, you will sweat. It feels like being in the southern part of China and in the sauna."
Residents are seeking refuge underground in air-raid shelters One university even moved its commencement ceremony to 7 in the morning to escape the heat. And won't somebody think about the grapes, which now have to wear its "sun-proof clothing"!
LI DEBIN DEZHONG GRAPE PLANT COOPERATION, HEBEI PROVINCE "We now have this new kind of non-woven fabrics bags. It ventilates well and solves the overheating problem."
Local governments are taking action to help beat the summer heat. And people are also taking it upon themselves to cool off whether it be copious amounts of ice creams or relaxing swims in cold water. Natalie Pang CGTN.
