YouTube has added a "breaking news" section on its homepage and mobile apps, as tech blog Android Police spotted.
The video-sharing platform is not just about being the “Tube” to showcase your everyday life to the world anymore. It wants to bring the world to you.
The breaking news section appears in the video suggestions displaying the most recent events. It is unclear if the videos are rolled out in a random order or hand picked by web editors.

It seems like YouTube is heading to the direction of a professional video streaming service.
YouTube Red, the company's paid streaming service, was launched in 2015 after a rebranding campaign, which houses all YouTube's content plus exclusive original shows and movies.
The content on YouTube is now much more polished than the good old homemade videos. Even "YouTubers" are gradually becoming a professional and have leveled up the quality of their content. People who used to spend a few minutes during commute watching short videos on the platform are now transferring to Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.
Labeling out the breaking news videos this time seems to be a simple organizing action to make them more accessible. YouTube is now still relying on news media to contribute materials in this section. It is unclear if YouTube will move on to have YouTubers, freelance journalists or everyday people contribute to the section. And what will YouTube do to curb the distribution of rumors and false information if it does move in this direction?
