Xi stresses CPC's leadership in national security work

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for enhancing the "centralized, unified leadership" of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the national security work on Tuesday.
President Xi, who heads the National Security Commission (NSC), made the remarks at the first meeting of the NSC of the 19th CPC Central Committee. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and top legislator Li Zhanshu also attended the meeting.
Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, spoke highly of the NSC in implementing an "overall national security outlook" since its establishment more than four years ago.
He underscored the importance of overall management of development and security, adding that people's safety, political safety and national interests must all be safeguarded.
As China enters a new era, the Party's "centralized, unified leadership" in the national security work must be strengthened, he said.
Xi also called on the NSC to improve its capabilities to address major risks and challenges.
