And as the Ryder Cup makes its first trip to France, the local economy is benefiting from holding the world's biggest team golf tournament. CGTN's Stefan de Vries explains why from Paris.
For the first time in history, France is organizing the Ryder Cup, the prestigious golf tournament.
STEFAN DE VRIES PARIS "The Ryder Cup is not only about sports, but also about money, lots of money."
Consultancy firm Ernst & Young calculated what France is earning with golf.
MARC LHERMITTE ERNST & YOUNG PARTNER "The overall economic impact that we just measured is 1 point 5 billion euros per year. It is growing significantly. A golf tourist who comes for at least one night, and is dedicated to golf, spends 60 percent more than a regular tourist. So there is an upward potential for golf. France needs to grasp the challenge and Ryder Cup can help for that."
The Ryder Cup is good for France's economy, but also for artists. Photographer and publisher Antoine Davot made a series combining his favorite topics: Paris, golf, and women.
ANTOINE DAVOT PHOTOGRAPHER & PUBLISHER "To celebrate the arrival of the Ryder Cup in France, in Paris, we decided to mix the elegance of golf with the Paris Fashion, and with the monuments in Paris. Here she's holding the real Ryder Cup, the one that will be given to the winning team in a couple of days. We were really happy to have it, because it is an expensive object that rarely gets out."
STEFAN DE VRIES PARIS "All the matches this weekend are sold out, but fans can come to this huge square in the heart of Paris, to watch the game on an enormous screen."
"It's most beautiful competition in the world, the best players are here, and in Paris. That's really cool."
"We are in Paris just for the Ryder Cup. We are going on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The three match days."
"I really like the American team, so I'm a bit torn between the Americans and the Europeans."
Stefan: "And who is going to win?"
"The Americans!"
STEFAN DE VRIES PARIS "And whoever may win, by organizing this tournament, France has already scored a hole in one. This is Stefan de Vries in Paris, for CGTN."
