One of the early highlights from the Asian Games was the Unified Korea team facing hosts Indonesia in Group A in women's basketball. This is not the only event that South Korea and the DPRK are joining up for as they have also formed a Unified Team for men's and women's dragon boat racing, and men's and women's rowing. Christy Schull has the details.
The game held at the GBK basket hall was one of the most attractive contests in the early days of the continental event as Unified Korea took on hosts Indonesia.
Athletes from the DPRK and South Korea have competed together on other occasions, including in women's ice hockey at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
SONG KWANGJONG, PRESIDENT NATIONAL UNIFICATION ADVISORY COUNCIL "Pyeongchang is the first time we unified and the Asian Games is the second time, we will try our best to show the spirit of Koreans."
The Unified Team would dominate Indonesia in the game and win 108-37 with Ro SukYong from the DPRK scoring a game-high 22 points.
LEE MOONKYU UNIFIED KOREA TEAM HEAD COACH "Actually we have some problems in communication although we all speak Korean, especially on professional basketball words. We didn't have enough time training together, but we have conquered all the difficulties."
This is the first time that the DPRK and South Korea have competed together in the Asian Games. Both nations will also march together under a unified flag during the opening and closing ceremonies. CGTN.
