Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai on Monday in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, holding a bilateral talk under the Belt and Road Initiative framework and marking Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism as well as the Sino-Thai Railway construction.
Thai PM upholds the “one-China” policy
Prayuth said in the meeting with Wang that Thailand upholds the “one-China” policy and is willing to deepen Sino-Thai comprehensive strategic partnership further. Thailand admired China’s developments and achievements and hoped to learn from China’s political experience to incorporate “Made in China 2025” strategy into Thai government’s “Thailand 4.0” strategy in a long-run cooperation between the two countries.
Wang conveyed warm greetings from Chinese leaders to the King of the Thailand and Prayuth, and welcomed Prayuth’s future visit to a meeting between the BRICS countries and emerging market countries and developing countries, saying that China has always put a great emphasis on Sino-Thai relationship.

"No obstacles between the two"
Wang and Don addressed a joint press conference on Monday.
At the meeting, Wang said "China and Thailand are like brothers," and stated that the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has created a space for two-sided development.
Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai praised Thai-Chinese relations, saying there were "no obstacles" to the relationship between the two.
Wang and Don said that the Sino-Thai rail construction is a key project of China-Thai cooperation and the railroad is an important part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative framework.
Thailand and China have reached a consensus on Sino-Thai rail project in 2014, but the process has been blocked by unresolved issues including technological transfer.
Wang stressed that the two countries would overcome rail project’s technical bottlenecks together and China is willing to share high-speed railway technique with Thailand to help address the technical challenges and construct of Sino-Thai railway.
Wang said he hoped the rail project would “establish” Thailand’s status as a regional hub and important economic center for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
LMC needs to avoid “empty talk”
“LMC” mechanism as another important project was also marked during the joint meeting.
"LMC" is an important part of China's overall cooperation with the ASEAN and a new type of sub-regional cooperation mechanism voluntarily initiated by the six countries in the region, including China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Wang called on “LMC” project to avoid “empty talk” but to step “on the ground” and said China hoped to cooperate with Thailand and other Mekong countries to continue to ensure that “LMC” mechanism is in action.
With efforts from both sides, China is willing to make LMC an example of regional cooperation and South-South cooperation, to make a contribution to the constructions to the stable growth of Asian economy.
