In China's Jiangxi Province, 47 elk have been released into the wild at Poyang Lake Wetland Park. It's to improve biodiversity and protect the ecosystem of China's largest fresh water lake. The animals have microchip implants to help experts monitor the elk and record their migratory routes. Elks are social animals and travel in herds. By tracking them, experts can better understand the whole community. The elk is on China's list of rare species. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, there are more than 5,000 in the country - accounting for 80-percent of the total worldwide.
