Monday marked National Safety Education Day for primary and secondary school students in China. And educators across the country taught students how to better protect themselves in various ways. CGTN's ZHENG CHUNYING has more.
Going out of the classroom for a special lesson. A police training base in Qingzhou, east China's Shandong Province, welcomed a group of primary school students giving them a tour while teaching them basics safety lessons. The young ones got the chance to check out the vehicles and equipment used by front-line officers. And also visited the command room, where they were given more details about how the police kept the city safe. For the youngsters, such an experience was both educational and fun.
WANG YUFEI STUDENT "I've learned more safety lessons through the trip. Thanks to this, I know more about self-protection. It's very interesting to me."
More activities were also held elsewhere. In a primary school in northwest China's Gansu Province, students attended lectures on fire safety and took part in a drill to be prepared for any cases of emergencies.
"Safety is vital for us. When a fire breaks out, instead of being nervous, we should keep calm and remember to bend down and cover our noses and mouths with wet cloths."
Safety education has become one of the top priorities for many schools. It's not just enough to be equipped with knowledge. Children should also know real skills in order to keep themselves safe. ZHENG CHUNYING CGTN.
