China-US Trade Tensions: Chinese Ambassador to the UK calls for open cooperation to protect intellectual property rights

China's Ambassador to the UK wrote an editorial in The Daily Telegraph.
Titled "Through Open Cooperation, We Can Protect Intellectual Property Rights" Liu Xiaoming called the US's actions protectionist that break WTO rules. Liu defended China, saying its worked hard to protect intellectual property rights mentioning that the country was the second largest source of international patent applications last year. He also said China has fully established a system of domestic patent laws, as well. The ambassador goes on to say that "closing the door" and moving to protectionism is not a winning path. He finishes by calling for cooperation with partners including the UK and the EU to pursue development driven by innovation.
