Israeli archaeologists Thursday said a mosaic unearthed in Israel, which dates back to the 2nd-3rd century CE, provides a glimpse into the early days of Roman Empire. /VCG Photo
The mosaic floor with figures was found during the excavation of a building from the Byzantine period in the Caesarea National Park. The floor is about 300 years older than the building, according to authorities from Israel Antiquities Authority. /VCG Photo
It is 3.5 meters by 8 meters in size and depicts three toga-clad men, as well as geometric patterns and a Greek inscription. /VCG Photo
Archaeologists said the mosaic is “of a rare high quality” comparable to that of Israel’s most excellent examples. /VCG Photo
