Private companies in China have seen rapid development in recent years and as their businesses expand, many of them have set up their own internal Communist Party organizations.
And the number of Party members within these private companies has also been increasing.
Du Jianwu has been a Party member for over a decade at the Guang Yu Yuan Chinese Herbal Medicine Company in Taigu County in northern Shanxi Province.
He’s also been the Party Branch Secretary for almost a year and heads a weekly workshop that studies Communist Party theory.

Du believes that Party members make production flow better.
“They are the cornerstones of the company, and their hard work leads the company in the right direction and they also teach new workers to master skills,” he said.
The Guang Yu Yuan Chinese Herbal Medicine Company has a history of almost 500 years and set up a Party committee around two decades ago. It now has nine Party branches.

It now boasts 89 Communist Party members, accounting for 15 percent of its employees and this number is expected to grow.
Once a month, its Party committee holds a meeting to discuss Communist Party theory and talk about related issues. Despite their busy production schedule, the members have visited many historical revolutionary sites to learn more about the history of the Party.
