Faces of CGTN: Seeing a different approach
By Marcus Ryder

I was fortunate to be at CGTN at the very beginning when it was launched a year ago. I believe China is changing and journalism in China is changing and CGTN is just part of that bigger change.
Previous to joining CGTN I was head of current affairs at BBC Scotland for eight years. I executive produced several award winning investigations for the BBC's flagship investigations program Panorama and helped steer the corporation's journalism through the politically sensitive Scottish Referendum personally launching a nightly news program to cover the changing political and social climate.
I've brought that experience of award winning investigative journalism and covering politically sensitive issues of global importance to China. I'm building a team of Chinese and international journalists to cover global events from a different non-western perspective while at the same time adhering to the strong values of unbiased, fair and balanced reporting I have learnt at over twenty years as a journalist.
China is growing rapidly and its place in the world is growing rapidly. I believe the role played by its journalism will also become increasingly important. I want to be a positive part of that change.
That's why I have invested not just my career but my family in China and CGTN and I am raising my one-year-old son here in China.
I look forward to seeing how much my son and CGTN grow over the coming years. I personally believe they both have great potential.
