In Kenya, more than 100 health workers have been deployed at all the border points, following an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kenya's health secretary said some 260 health workers are on standby. Kenya is a key trading hub in east Africa. The Health Ministry has installed electronic scanners, hand-gun thermo scanners and other support systems at entry points to screen travelers coming into the country. A National Emergency Council has also been established to monitor the situation.
SICILY KARIUKI KENYA HEALTH CABINET SECRETARY "The Ministry of Health in Kenya has moved to put in place health systems on high alert. We have strengthened the routine screening of travellers at JKIA where we are this morning. We have also strengthened our routine screening in Busia, Malaba, Wilson Airport, as well as all other entry points into the country totaling 43."
NAJIB BALALA KENYA TOURISM CABINET SECRETARY "We are ready. Kenya is ready to screen all the targeted areas where probably Ebola can come but we are very far from the Ebola area but I can tell you we must be proactive."
