President Xi's speech was well received by the media from member states as well as observer countries. Our reporter Wu Guoxiu has this report from the media center in Qingdao.

As soon as Xi Jinping began speaking, the room turned quiet, all minds concentrated on what the Chinese president was saying, his words being translated into multiple languages, his message being spread to every corner of the SCO bloc. One of those present was Umarova from Uzbekistan, who's studying for a master's in international relations in Beijing. She was assisting her nation's journalists this weekend and she said she fully supported Xi Jinping's sentiments.

UMAROVA YASMINA INTERPRETER, UZBEK MEDIA "President Xi Jinping has mentioned that SCO is a great platform for building the future of shared humankind destiny. I think it's so true. Because the SCO spirit is based on this equality and understanding other cultures, and win-win cooperation."

Meanwhile, a national security advisor from Afghanistan – one of the observer nations – praised the Chinese president's vision, particularly when it came to regional security.

MOHAMMAD HANEEF ATMAR NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR, AFGHANISTAN "He is such a very visionary leader with clear articulation of his vision, not only for China but also for the region and the community of nations. What he is emphasizing on is shared prosperity, shared security, peace and stability for all nations. We're particularly grateful on his emphasis of cooperation with Afghanistan for counter terrorism and peace reconciliation."

And, as ever, there were many other viewpoints around the venue, everybody interpreting the Chinese president's words in their own way.
