Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of advancing the high quality economy and expressed the resolution to win the battle against poverty when joining a panel discussion with deputies to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at the annual session of the NPC in Beijing on Monday. 

Xi stressed the development of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's industry should not only focus on sheep, coal, soil and gas, but having to vigorously cultivate new industries, new kinetic energy and new growth pole.

Meanwhile, developing should not rush headlong into mass action, Xi added.

When talking about poverty alleviation issues, Xi pointed out related work should resolve to eliminate absolute poverty but could not make dangled promise to set the public's expectation way too high. It will lead to the result that a good intention cannot realize a good result. 

As an NPC deputy, Xi is also part of the Inner Mongolia delegation this year.

Xi noted, during the election of deputies to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee proposed the leading comrades in the Central Committee should choose ethnic minority border region to participate in the election. He then chose the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which reflected the Central Committee's high attention to accelerate the development of less developed areas and the resolution to win poverty alleviation battle.

During the panel discussion, Xi also emphasized key issues including innovation unity, the defense of the nation's northern border, and building the area into a beautiful region.
