Over one million people have been displaced by the fighting between the Iraqi security forces and terrorist group ISIL in Iraq. But even those who do escape face many challenges, as CGTN’s Tony Cheng reports.
More than 6,000 displaced people from west Mosul live at Hasansham U2 camp. Conditions are no more than basic and the heat is unbearable. Hygiene is a major challenge, and several days ago, the camp was hit by massive food poisoning. The number of people in the camps also means medical supplies are scarce.

With the offensive to capture the old city of Mosul now underway, time is of the essence. More than 100,000 people are starving to death there. But even if the city is retaken within weeks, there will be many new inhabitants in the camps.
