The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is becoming a force to reckon with in India. In the first quarter of this year it has already captured over 30 percent market share. In the first three months of 2018, the Chinese tech firm sold more than 9 million smartphones. Beginning with just online presence, now Xiaomi products are available in 36 Mi home stores across the country. Let's track the journey of Xiaomi in India.
Zeeshan is a happy man today as he just purchased his favorite phone from a Mi home store in Delhi. A loyal Xiaomi customer he bought his first Mi phone offline and says these products are value for money.
"From day one I have used mi phones and they give you a good hardware and software and these phones are not that expensive yet they have everything a student needs in the phone."
People are queuing up at Mi home stores to touch and feel the products which were till now available only online.
"The user interface is very similar to iphone, and it's very easy to operate, and that appearance of these smart phones are quite impressive, so I guess I should give it a try."
To add to this rising product pull in the offline stores, manufacturing in India has made the products easily available. More than 95% of Xiaomi smartphones sold in India today are made in India. This helps the company avoid import duty tariffs making the phones cheaper.
