Just days after Washington put Chinese company Huawei on a trade blacklist, its founder and CEO sat down for an exclusive interview with China Media Group. Ren Zhengfei offered his stance on the current state of affairs, and his outlook of the company's future. With that, here's CGTN's Zou Yun.
He doesn't want to be called a hero, and said buying Huawei's products should not be seen as a matter of patriotism.
REN ZHENGFEI HUAWEI FOUNDER AND CEO "No, I'm not a hero. I never wanted to be a hero."
Huawei has become one of the US's main targets amid rising tension between the world's two largest economies.
The US banned American companies from doing business with the Chinese tech giant, chief among them Google, Intel etc.
There are widespread concerns that Huawei is going through the most dangerous and difficult of times, but Ren Zhengfei doesn't think so.
REN ZHENGFEI HUAWEI FOUNDER AND CEO "The most dangerous time for Huawei was before the Meng Wanzhou incident, when employees were rich, unmotivated, and unwilling to do the hard work. Now they are motivated, and their effectiveness is growing. How could we say times are dangerous? The company is in its best state."
Ren also says that the US's move will have some effect on its products, but its most advanced sectors, such as 5G, will not be affected.
ZOU YUN BEIJING "Huawei says that they are prepared, that if the trade tension between China and the US doesn't end soon, the longer they fight, the stronger they may become. ZY, CGTN, BJ."
