Stanley Tong, a well-known Hong Kong film director, producer and action choreographer, boasts an extensive repertoire of action movies under his belt, including “Rumble in the Bronx”,“Police Story 3 and 4” and “The Myth”.

Tong is also known for his immersive approach to directing, often attempting stunts himself before asking the actors to risk themselves.

In an interview with CGTN, Tong looked back on his long career path — starting as a stuntman, before progressing to stunt coordinator and finally ending up on the director's chair — and spoke about why he chose a career largely behind the scenes, despite once being thought of as a future action movie star.

Tong also mentioned his long-time cooperation with Jackie Chan, whom he calls his “big brother and mentor”, as well as the decline and renaissance of Hong Kong action films in recent years.
