World first autonomous dental implant robot was used in an operation on Saturday in Xi'an City, capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
The robot was completely developed in China and uses the ingenious "mechanical space fusion" positioning method, which can not only improve the accuracy of an operation but can combine with 3D printing technology to achieve immediate dental repair.
Before the operation, the patient needs to take a CT - computed tomography - scan to acquire all the patient's skull and jaw data. Then the data is stored through a special marking system, so that the robot arm can identify the corresponding location precisely in the non-open space and finish the dental implant surgery.
During the operation, the robot arm moved into the patient's mouth following a preset motion path, and after locating the exact position absent of tooth, the arm installed the implant into the cavity.
It took the robot less than an hour to install two implants into the patient's cavities.
