Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has met the new Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Beijing.
The premier said, as the organization's first chief from Africa, Dr Tedros would have a positive influence on improving public health in the developing world, adding that the Chinese government always actively supports the WHO's work, and would like to enhance cooperation with the WHO on the Belt and Road Initiative.
China will also speed up the establishment of basic medical and health system with Chinese characteristics and expect continuous support from the WHO, adding Premier Li.
Dr Tedros praised China's medical and health system reforms. He also said the WHO is impressed with China's contribution to world's public healthcare development, and would like to lift the cooperation to a higher level.
