Official: China's contribution to global economic growth tops world

Senior officials from China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) held a press conference as the 19th CPC National Congress enters its fourth day.
He Lifeng, secretary of the CPC Leading Group and chairman of the NDRC; Zhang Yong, vice chairman of the NDRC; and Ning Jizhe, vice chairman of the NDRC, briefed media on several key issues about China's economic development.
On achievements over the past five years
China has seen stable, sound and sustainable development over the past five years, He Lifeng said.
"Despite the slow recovery of the global economy, our economy has grown by 7.2 percent annually on average over the past four years," he said, adding that China has contributed a lot to the global growth.
On stability of Chinese economy
He Lifeng said the Chinese economy enjoys a stable and sound growth which can been seen in its economic indicators, employment, growth process and poverty reduction.
He stressed that China has lifted at least 10 million people out of poverty each year.

On innovation-driven development
When talking about innovation-driven development, He told reporters that the country is working on economic restructuring and industrial upgrading.
China has cut excess production capacity of over 100 million metric tons of iron and steel and over 400 million metric tons of coal in aggregated terms as the enterprises have seen better operation in recent years, according to the senior official.
On new industries, He said China now has over 90 unicorn companies, accounting for about one third of the world total.
The development of e-commerce, the sharing economy and online payment has helped improve people's lives, he said.
On development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region
There has been progress in the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, He Lifeng said, promising a master plan listing the functions and industries deemed inessential to Beijing and Tianjin's development.
"Another important component for the region is the establishment of the Xiongan New Area," He said.

A strong team has been assembled to govern the new area, and more than 300 experts have been invited to formulate the master plan, the official said.
He also said infrastructure construction including a high-speed railway connecting Xiongan and the capital city will inject impetus to regional growth.
The NDRC is a macroeconomic management agency working under the State Council to plan and manage key issues in national economic and social development.
