Bird, dragons, trees … that’s what a Chinese couple from Ningbo City of Zhejiang Province can make with fish bones, spines and scales, according to news reports published on Monday. To make them look natural, the artworks have never been dyed nor pruned. /VCG Photo
The husband, Liu Yunliang, is mostly responsible for making them. He is inspired by birds made from fish bones, which symbolizes good luck in local coastal culture. /VCG Photo
Hailing from a family of fisherman, Liu learned the techniques from his father and grandfather. “We take 400 kinds of fish in the East Sea as treasures,” he said. /VCG Photo
Liu has the copyrights to more than 40 artworks. The pieces sold brought the couple enough money to build a house worth one million yuan (about 154,000 US dollars). /VCG Photo
