In 2018, the Chinese government will implement the policy of extending second round rural land contracts by another 30 years upon their expiration, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Monday.
This comes as part of China's rural revitalization strategy so as to give farmers stable expectations on land contracts. According to Li, this reform will be experimenting with separating the ownership rights, qualification rights as well as use rights for rural land designated for housing.
Li made the remarks in his government work report to lawmakers during the opening meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, which is held in Beijing from March 5 to 20.
Supply-side structural reform in agriculture will also be put forward; new types of agribusiness will be introduced, and commercial services specially designed for small agricultural households will be promoted, said Li in his report.
