The new dispensation that ushered in a new government in Zimbabwe last November and a new President in elections held in July this year have greatly turned around the image and bad perception of the country. Image change resulted in increased interest and increased visitors, which then promotes tourism and promote economic development. With business, generally being a competitive game to gain a competitive advantage, companies tend to also corporate on business dealings and operations to ensure market dynamics is maintained.
KARIKOGA KASEKE CHIEF EXECUTIVE, ZIMBABWE TOURISM AUTHORITY "Destinations compete. The competitive advantage you have is because of certain unique things that you are doing to the destination. But we were the most disadvantaged in the previous era, we were the most disadvantaged from a corporate point of view. To worsen things, we also had a very stricter' visa regime, yes, we started improving the visa regime but overall we were the most disadvantaged in terms of competing with other destinations."
To sell Zimbabwe, the people have been urged to remain united and focused on growth and development of the country rather than the negatives or political differences.
BRUNO WALTER CONSULTING ITB ADVISORY "In Africa the time is correct. Spring is starting I think we really see a new spring and the people are transferring that and these are your ambassadors because tourism is basically a very simple thing we are selling only one single task or one single issue this is emotion. And emotion can only be transferred if you are behind what you are talking about."
