Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday voiced strong opposition to Japan over the opening of an exhibition center to claim sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands.
"Diaoyu Island and its affiliated isles are China's inherent territories, and China's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands has a solid historical and legal basis," said spokesperson Hua Chunying.
"China is not satisfied with Japan's actions," Hua said, stressing that regardless of what the Japanese side had done, it would not change the fact the islands belong to China.
Hua also underlined China's resolve to safeguard the territorial sovereignty of the islands.

On Thursday, Japan opened the exhibit hall in central Tokyo to provide the public with information about Diaoyu Islands and Dokdo Islands (Takeshima in Japanese), highlighting Japanese "sovereignty" over the islands with claims by China and South Korea respectively.
South Korea protested Japan's act on Thursday, saying Dokdo is Seoul's inherent territory and demanded immediate closure of the exhibit hall.
"It also should be reminded that a right historical recognition serves as the foundation for South Korea-Japan relations," said South Korea's Foreign Ministry.
