Aerial footage of flooded Texas chemical plant fire
Two explosions were reported on Thursday at a chemical plant in the Texas town of Crosby, near Houston. More fires are expected in the coming days.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office in a tweet confirmed "a series of chemical reactions at the @Arkema_Inc Crosby facility.”
Officials had already ordered the evacuation of an area within three kilometers of the organic peroxides plant, which operators had said was at risk of exploding due to a "critical issue" triggered by Harvey's torrential rains.
Storm Harvey was downgraded to a tropical depression but the US National Weather Service said it is now beginning to lose its tropical characteristics.
It is expected to dissipate in Ohio on Saturday evening.
