Exclusive interview: Panamanian President on establishment of diplomatic ties

Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela has shared his thoughts on establishment of diplomatic relation with China in an exclusive interview with CGTN's Wang Guan.
When asked whether he had talked with any Taiwanese officials before switching ties, he responded, “After I became President of Panama on July 1, 2014, I made it clear that I will form diplomatic relations with China. And that is what I did.”
Varela also expressed that the diplomatic shift was the right thing to do for the people and the future of Panama.
