The New York City Veterans Day Parade is the largest Veterans Day event in the US, which takes place every November 11 no matter the weather. More than 300 units and tens of thousands of marchers gathered near Madison Square Park for this year's parade on Saturday. /Chinanews Photo
The NYC Veterans Day has its origins in parade and marches organized by veterans of the American Revolutionary War. Dating back to 1919, after World War I, millions of New Yorkers welcomed home tens of thousands of militaries at parades along Fifth Avenue and thence continued a new tradition for honoring their service. /Chinanews Photo
Although this traditional parade was declined in the late 1970s and 1980s, the United War Veterans Council went forward to protect it and spared no effort to restore the parade’s rightful position of prominence in the community. /Chinanews Photo
The parade crossed on Fifth Avenue from 26th to 52nd Street and the Reviewing Stand is located in front of the NY Public Library. /Chinanews Photo
