Over in Uganda, the World University Netball Championship is continuing in the East African nation's capital, Kampala. Seven teams are competing for top honours, in just the third edition of this event. CGTN's Leon Ssenyange breaks it all down.
South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Uganda are in the running for the World University Netball Championship title following their brilliant displays. Defending champions South Africa made easy work of their Asian opponents Singapore. A 92-11 win ensures they stay on course to come out top in the round robin play. South Africa's main challenger to the crown is Uganda, however, the East African side has shown great determination to win the university title. Home advantage added to the team's confidence as Uganda defeated yet another Asian side, Sri Lanka, 132-24. Uganda's Mary Nuba and Irene Eyaru were in top form, together scoring 110 goals in the resounding victory.
LEON SSENYANGE KAMPALA "The hosts Uganda feel there is a lot to be pleased with their performance. They are unbeaten, so far, but will have a lot of work ahead when they face Zimbabwe and South Africa in their next fixtures."
And Uganda is well aware of the strengths of their title rivals.
IRENE EYARU UGANDA CAPTAIN "I know the players of South Africa are very fast compared to our speed of Uganda, so we need to work on our speed of play, defense, and communication on court."
The seven-team championship also features the United States of America, who are making their debut in the games. The Americans came close to picking up their first championship victory. However, they could not hold onto their third-quarter lead, eventually losing to Kenya 40-44.
AMARA MBIORWU USA CAPTAIN "I think it was the small things like a steal but all in all, it was a good game."
HELLEN SINOYA KENYA CAPTAIN "Honestly, in this World Championship, winning is not easy. We are at least confident that there is something we have come out with."
The Championship ends this Friday with the top two teams set to face-off in a thrilling finale. LS, CGTN, KAMPALA, UGANDA.
