Brazil’s ‘Nise: The Heart of Madness’ wins top prize at BRICS Film Festival

The second BRICS Film Festival has wrapped up in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, after showing off the best filmmaking from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

At the festival’s closing ceremony on Tuesday, Brazilian film "Nise: The Heart of Madness" was awarded the Panda Award for best film.

Kim Druzhinin and Andrey Shalopa, who jointly directed Russian film "Panfilov's 28", won the Best Director award. And Alok Rajwade from the Indian entry "Kaasav" and Zhou Dongyu from the Chinese film "Soulmate" both won best acting honors.

An anthology called "Where has the time gone" by five directors from the BRICS countries won the Artistic Merit Award.

Since the festival opened on June 23, 33 movies have been screened in cinemas in Chengdu. Panel discussions and other events were also held during the festival, where a slew of co-production deals among BRICS countries were signed.

The third BRICS Film Festival will be held next year in South Africa.
