Soldier’s family reunion while on duty warms hearts

China’s Spring Festival holiday is known as a time for family reunions, but there are always a few who can’t escape their work to make it home for these prized moments. Among them is Wu Mengjie, a soldier at Beijing West Railway Station who is scheduled to work throughout the festive period, selflessly ensuring safety for the millions passing through the building.

Ahead of the holiday, Wu’s family surprised him with a visit while he was on duty earlier this month, and pictures of the brief but happy get-together have become a social media sensation.

The young soldier’s family members traveled the roughly 700 km from their hometown of Jiaozuo in Henan Province. They planned to just take a look at their son from afar, but Wu saw them and his eyes quickly welled up.
