Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will pay official visits to Indonesia and Japan. He will also attend the 7th China-Japan-ROK leaders' meeting in Japan. Our correspondent Meng Qingsheng has more on the premier's agenda in Indonesia, as well as the focus of the trilateral meeting in Japan.
MENG QINGSHENG BEIJING "Today Premier Li Keqiang will start his official visit to Indonesia and later on Japan, marking his first overseas trip after the reshuffle of the State Council in March. A number of deals are expected to come out from this trip, focusing on projects under the Belt and Road Initiative and the East Asian Economic Community.
During his stay in Indonesia, Premier Li will make proposals on strengthening cooperation when meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Currently, the two countries are advancing projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway and industrial parks, in addition to cooperation among energy and Internet businesses. Li will also meet Lim Jock Hoi, secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
After the first leg of his trip in Indonesia, the premier will attend the 7th China-Japan-South Korea leaders' meeting to be held in Japan on the morning of May 9th. Premier Li, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will attend that event, jointly meet with the press, and address the opening ceremony of the trilateral business summit.
During his stay in Japan, Li will hold talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, meet with Emperor Akihito and engage with people from political parties and all walks of life. The premier will make proposals for pragmatic economic cooperation, particularly in areas such as social security, technological innovation and the sharing economy. In fact, the expectations are high on the visit, as it will the first official trip by a Chinese premier within the last 8 years. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the two countries."
