Experts at the 2017 Global (Shanghai) Artificial Intelligence Innovation Summit are optimistic about the future of the AI technology.
Stepping into the summit hall, every attendee has to pass through a gate where a camera is waiting. The camera scans people's faces and information will then appear on screen: This is facial recognition technology in action.
Sensetime is one of the companies showing off its software, and its technology is already in use in office check-in systems, as well as in criminal investigations.
Its managing director says it is better than 99 percent accurate. Responding to the low acceptance among common users, the manager said it's normal that people would be more careful about it when it's linked to money.
For now, the technology is mainly used in entertainment, marketing and ID applications, but experts expect that to expand quickly.
