Let's turn to Morocco now where archaeologists have their eye on a long-neglected ancient Roman village in hopes of unearthing mysteries.
Morocco's oldest Roman village,Volubilis, right at the foothills of Mount Zerhon. The site has survived pillage and long periods of neglect. But now its custodians are putting their best foot forward to protect this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
M'HAMED ALILOU DEPUTY CURATOR, VOLUBILIS "Now the site is well monitored, because we have 14 guards day or night, they monitor 24/7, in addition to that we have hidden cameras everywhere."
Ranging over 42 hectares at its peak it had 15 thousand inhabitants. Over the years it's passed through Roman, Arab and French hands.
M'HAMED ALILOU DEPUTY CURATOR, VOLUBILIS "During the period of French colonial rule, it was the French who took archeological artifacts that can now be found in the Louvre. In the Louvre you can find artifacts from the Volubilis site."
The site still holds many mysteries. A third of the site has yet to be excavated, giving archeologists a chance for a good dig. Asta Tall, CGTN.
