An exhibition of Buddha statuettes has opened to the public at the Hall of Abstinence in Beijing's Forbidden City. The exhibit is co-hosted by the Palace Museum and a local art gallery.
Over a hundred Buddha sculptures are presented from both public and private collections, showcasing the dynamic changes and diversity of Tibetan Buddhist art between the 2nd and 15th centuries.
According to the organizer, the show also demonstrates the craftsmanship of statue-making from ancient India, Nepal to Chinese Tibet. Some of these collections are being viewed by the public for the first time. It is also the first time for the Forbidden City to allow public collections to show with private ones.
LUO WENHUA PALACE MUSEUM "The exhibition shows a total of 112 art pieces and most of them are copper alloy statues. These collections come from ancient India, Nepal, and Tibet. The ages range from the 6th to the 15th century. Many of the relics displayed in this exhibition are of an extremely high quality and artistic level. Both their historical value and artistic aesthetic value are quite high, which means the audience can enjoy these fine works from a close distance."
