China-Egypt Ties: Thousands of Egyptians throng movie halls to watch Chinese films

In Egypt. This week saw the launch of Chinese Movie Week at Hanager theater at the Cairo Opera House. Several Chinese films are being screened for the Egyptian audience, in an effort to deepen cultural cooperation between China and Egypt. Yasser Hakim has more.
Chinese films are decorating the streets of Cairo. Movie goers and officials from China and Egypt attended the launch of the China Film week at the Hanager theater.
IMAN MAGDY COMMITTEE MEMBER, CHINA MOVIE WEEK "These films were chosen because they were successful in China and at the same time their style suits the Egyptian viewers. The aim of this festival is to bring the Chinese and Egyptian people closer together and Egyptians would learn more about the Chinese community."
On the sidelines, the head of the Chinese Delegation signed a cooperation agreement with the Chinese cultural center to provide more venues to show Chinese films in the future. The Chinese movie industry had developed a lot in the last few years, attracting more international audiences.
DIAO HONGFENG MEMBER, CHINESE CULTURAL DELEGATION "The movie industry has grown and improved with the development of the economic and political situation. It reflects the improvement in the society. The population in China is 1.8 billion people. Nearly one billion people go to watch Chinese films and the total box office sales for last year was 8.6 billion dollars. It has become the second largest movie industry in the world."
The film screened at the opening ceremony is 'Wolf Tatom', an adventure movie.
DIAO HONGFENG MEMBER, CHINESE CULTURAL DELEGATION "The film was shot in North China in the valleys and forests with beautiful natural scenery and it highlights the relationship between the animals and the human beings. The film was very popular and successful in China."
And the Egyptian audience who watched the film seemed to have enjoyed what they saw.
"I really liked the movie, it's very interesting and touches the soul. I'm looking forward to seeing more Chinese films soon."
YASSER HAKIM CAIRO, EGYPT "The China Film Week is going to be followed by several other Chinese cultural activities in Cairo and the city of Alexandria, including an art exhibition and book fair.
