Time for some basketball beginning with the NBA with the Washington Wizards hosting the San Antonio Spurs. Washington had lost their last three games, but in their 25 outings without their best player five-time All-Star John Wall, they have found a way to hold their own and came in sitting in sixth place in the East. The Spurs won six of their last seven games and were also sixth in the West, but would lose LaMarcus Aldridge to a knee injury in the second quarter which could prove very costly.
Just over four minutes in, LaMarcus Aldridge passes to Patty Mills and the Australian connects on the three to make it 11-10 San Antonio.
Otto Porter steals it for Washington and goes back the other way to score a tough running jumper, 16-13 Wiz. Late in the second quarter, a blocked shot is recovered by Kelly Oubre who comes back with a floater that falls and the hosts lead by 14. Marcin Gortat nearly hands the ball to Mills, then strolls in to drop a deuce. 63-51 Wizards.
Mills is one of just two Spurs starters who score in double digits as he stops and drops three of his 11 points, three and half minutes into the third quarter. Gortat hits the layup while being fouled and it's 76-57 Wizards. Washington maintains their advantage and with about two and a half minutes to play, Mike Scott's two pointer makes it 92-68. The Wizards go on to win 116-106 to snap their three game losing streak.
In other games, Miami beat Cleveland by holding them to a season-low in points, Toronto topped Denver and are closing in on the number one seed in the East, West leaders Houston won their tenth straight as Eric Gordon scored 31, Damian Lillard tallied 41 points and found out after Portland's win that his girlfriend had gone into labour, Dallas dumped Sacramento, and slumped to a low-scoring loss against Indiana.
