AI Future in China
[]
AI is developing rapidly in China, from Internet giants to startups, from cutting-edge technology to people's daily lives. CGTN's Jiang Shaoyi tells us more.
China has been gaining momentum in the artificial intelligence industry in recent years leading the global AI revolution in many fields.
Driving change, transportation is a sector being transformed, thanks to self-driving cars. In March, China legalized road tests for self-driving vehicles for the very first time. In eastern China's Zhejiang Province, the country's first superhighway that allows unmanned driving is currently under construction, and is expected to open in 2022. The superhighway will support Mobile charging for electric vehicles. The 161-kilometer intelligent expressway links Hangzhou with Ningbo. And it will allow an average traffic speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
In the domestic healthcare sector, AI has been used to improve efficiency and the overall experience for both doctors and patients. Many hospitals in China have already introduced robot guides to provide inquiry services for patients. The AI-enabled systems in hospitals can assist doctors with medical diagnosis and treatment. For example, it may take a doctor more than three minutes to read a CT case that consists of hundreds of images. However, it takes the AI system less than one second to make an initial diagnosis.
You no longer have to shop 'till you drop! AI technology is also reshaping the retail sector in China. Last year, e-commerce giant Alibaba opened a staffless convenience store. The stores have lit a fire in people's imaginations. In the near future, when you're trying on new outfits, a smart mirror may replace the old fitting rooms. It can memorize information such as your size and favorite color, so you NO longer need to spend hours picking the right suit for your friend's wedding. And when finally at the counter, all you need to do is to scan the bar codes, paying via your mobile phone. And the game changer -- delivery drones --- will send all you have bought to your home. By analyzing consumer behaviors, AI technology will surely provide better customer experiences and even more opportunities for the retail sector.
