We begin with the 24th Shanghai TV Festival -- one of the industry's most influential and prestigious events in Asia. And at this special forum on animation, guest speakers from both home and abroad shared their insights on how to win over new audiences with an old medium. Shen Li reports.
Among the keynote speakers was British animation producer, Kay Benbow. With more than 25 years' experience in children's programming -- primarily at the BBC -- Kay says children's animation should be as diversified as television programming is for adults.
Chinese animation writer Ma Hua -- known for scripting films such as Kuiba -- says innovative thought is the key to good storytelling.
MA HUA ANIMATION SCRIPT WRITER "For animation to touch the audience, you have to find the right angle. For example, there are so many superhero films on the market, but the animation franchise "The incredibles" stands out because it focuses on what happens when the superheroes grow old, their mid-life crises. It's all about stories. Quality content."
For Malaysian native and expert in creative animation, Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, animation and the gaming industry are very closely linked and should complement each other to bring about win-win results.
The festival will reach its climax on Friday evening with the Magnolia Awards, where outstanding television productions, actors, directors, scriptwriters and directors of photography will be honored. SL, CGTN, SH.
