With the FOCAC Summit just a few days away, the city of Beijing has organized a series of cultural events highlighting Chinese history and traditions. CGTN's Omar Khan paid a visit to one historic theatre house, showcasing the renowned Peking Opera.
Located in the heart of Beijing, the Liyuan Theatre is one of the city's most prestigious performance venues.
Audiences are given the opportunity to travel back in time, and experience traditional China and the Peking Opera.
And for visiting reporters who have come all the way from Africa, they were in for quite the treat.
But as dazzling as it may seem, there's a lot of work that goes down behind the scenes in putting on such a show.
For Yu Haibo, the marketing manager of the Peking Opera Theatre, events like this are more than just evening entertainment, but a chance for cultures and understanding to transcend borders.
YU HAIBO MARKETING MANAGER, PEKING OPERA THEATRE "In the past, Africa was full of mystery. However, with the increase of bilateral activities between Africa and China in recent years, I think cultural exchanges between the two sides have increased year by year, which enables us to understand Africa better. When I went to Africa to attend a cultural event in 2012, I already had a feeling that there was no barrier to the cultural exchanges. I hope we can get closer to African people and understand each other's culture better through activities like today's show."
And with cultural exchanges like this becoming a norm, hopefully we can all sit back and enjoy the music, dancing and of course, singing. Omar Khan, CGTN, Beijing.
