Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday held a phone conversation with UK Prime Minister Theresa May to exchange ideas about the soaring tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Xi stressed that China adheres to the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, upholding international nuclear non-proliferation and keeping peace and stability in northeast Asia.
The issue of the Korean Peninsula should be resolved in peaceful ways, including dialogue and consultation, and the international community should work together, Xi added.
The UK is committed to a peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, said May, adding that the UK appreciates China’s efforts in resolving the DPRK issue. She also expressed her wish to strengthen communication with China.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the UK. The leaders pointed that the two sides should maintain high-level exchanges and promote bilateral relations.
