When 39-year-old Wang Yuting was diagnosed with the disease 26 years ago, doctors in east China's Zhejiang Province gave a grim prognosis: It was unlikely she'd live beyond age 18. The hereditary disease not only threatened her health but her dream of becoming an artist.
The prognosis spurred deep depression – but not for long. She decided to pursue her dream to be an artist, with the help of her mother: She devoted her time to painting – even though her arms were only able to move within a spectrum of five centimeters.

It was no easy feat. Just to complete one painting, it can take her up to months. And yet, Wang has persevered. She has since created 200 paintings, most of which are about ancient beauties, landscapes, birds and flowers, traditional Chinese style.
In 2012, Wang held a solo exhibition in Beijing. 26 of her works were up for auction. The proceeds from the auction totaled about 376,000 yuan (54,000 US dollars), all of which have been donated to a charity.

Her works have drawn wide attention from the media, and her story has greatly inspired many Chinese netizens.
