The CBA's second-longest winning streak remains intact, after the Beijing Ducks beat the Guangzhou Long-Lions 112 to 98. The club from the capital extending their success upon returning from the FIBA Qualifying break, and as Damion Jones reports, the players give all the credit to hard-work, and team-work.
There has been one constant with the Beijing Ducks over the last two seasons -- the unconditional expectation that every member of the squad needs to be ready to contribute at a moment's notice -- and that mentality, has truly been serving the squad well, so far in the current campaign.
AARON JACKSON BEIJING DUCKS GUARD "We're gonna play team-orientated basketball, and we've been playing it for a year-and-a-half now, and I think they're finally getting to understand. They're used to it, they're getting their confidence, and they know when they're gonna get their shots, and where they're gonna get their shots, and it helps them. And it helps us, it helps me and Justin tremendously, and it helps the Beijing Ducks tremendously."
JUSTIN HAMILTON BEIJING DUCKS CENTER "We started a little slow. I think it just took us a second to remember who we were, and so for us, we just had to settle down, and remember we're a defensive-minded team, and we play team basketball, and we share the ball around, and good things happen."
The Capital Crew closed out the opening third of this season on a nine-game winning streak, with coach Yannis Christopoulos showing no hesitation, about putting his younger and less experienced players on the floor, to cover for untimely injuries, or exploit potential mismatches.
DAMION JONES BEIJING "The first game out of the CBA's international break provides a chance to see who made the best use of their time off, as the Beijing Ducks chase a 10th consecutive win, while the Guangzhou Long-Lions just try to build some momentum."
The visitors are enduring an up-and-down campaign, despite the best efforts of high-scoring guard Kyle Fogg, and veteran center Marreese Speights. But the man who helped the Golden State Warriors reach the NBA summit in 2015 is not panicking, despite coach Juan Antonio Orenga's palpable air of urgency.
MARREESE SPEIGHTS GUANGZHOU LONG-LIONS CENTER "Winning on the road, that's the biggest thing, you gotta win on the road, you gotta play together, and you just gotta gel at the right time. A lot of teams come in the Playoffs at whatever seed, and if you're gelling at the right time, your sky is unlimited."
KYLE FOGG GUANGZHOU LONG-LIONS GUARD "Coach had some great, you know, practices planned for us during the break. Guys really played hard, you know, in practice, and we got better, so you know I'm excited about the future. I feel good. Beijing is a great team, so they're gonna beat a lot of other teams here, so I feel good about our team so far."
In this contest, however, the Ducks would stay an arm's length ahead of Guangzhou, as Zhai Xiaochuan, Zhu Yanxi, and Duan Jianpeng combine for 44 points, to complement the 43 jointly turned in by Aaron Jackson and Justin Hamilton, helping the home side's run reach double figures, with a 112 to 98 short-working of the Long-Lions.
