The Russian Black Sea Fleet's newest frigate, Admiral Essen, has left Sevastopol in the Crimean Peninsula to sail for the Mediterranean to support Moscow's efforts in Syria.
The Admiral Essen, which joined the Russian navy in June 2016, is equipped with cruise missiles and medium-range surface-to-air missile systems.
The frigate, along with the Admiral Grigorovich warship and the submarine Krasnodar, launched missile strikes on ISIL targets in Syria's Hama Province at the end of June.
