Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto arrived in Xiamen on Monday to attend the Dialogue between Emerging Market Economies and Developing Countries on the sidelines of the ninth summit of the BRICS bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pena Nieto will gather with leaders from the five BRICS member states, as well as from Guinea, Egypt, Tajikistan and Thailand to discuss international cooperation and global governance.
Ahead of his visit, the Mexican president said the BRICS countries are playing "a key role" in bringing greater balance to global governance in an increasingly more plural and diverse world.
The dialogue provides Mexico with an opportunity to put forward its outlook on topics such as development, south-south cooperation, promoting connectivity and trade, and ways to eradicate poverty, said Pena Nieto.
"Mexico is committed to each of those issues to make headway towards a more just, prosperous and inclusive world," he noted in an interview with Xinhua News Agency, adding "we are most willing to continue to promote international collaboration towards these goals."
