US President Donald Trump Thursday met with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi on the sidelines of the first round of China-US Security Dialogue at White House in Washington.
The two agreed that the security dialogue is a crucial step in implementing the consensus reached in April between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Yang also pointed out the steady progress of the China-US 100-day plan, saying China was willing to cooperate with the US under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The denuclearization of Korean Peninsula was also on the agenda for discussion.
Both sides expressed their willingness to maintain communication and continue to work for a denuclearized peninsula. At the upcoming G20 summit in Hamburg this July, President Xi and President Trump are set to meet again for further discussions.
