China-France Ties: President Xi Jinping talks with French President Emmanuel Macron

Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron over the phone on Thursday. Macron congratulated Xi on his renewed presidency. He said he values the outcomes of the Two Sessions and the China-France friendship. He also said he hopes the two sides can keep a close high-level relationship and further develop the relationship in various areas. Xi thanked Macron for his call so soon after the Two Sessions, and said China's political season has great significance for the country. Xi said China is ready to work with France to create a vibrant and comprehensive strategic bilateral partnership, maintain and improve the international order and the global governance system, and jointly create an open global trading system. The two leaders also exchanged ideas on international and regional issues.
