Chinese President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia on Tuesday has been well-received by world leaders for its open tone and support to globalization and equitable development that will benefit everyone.
Reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Many praised China's efforts to reform its markets, and expressed belief that the leadership's determination to further open up will benefit the whole world.
The US President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised the "kind words" of President Xi, and foresaw "great progress" in their cooperation.
Forty year ago, Deng Xiaoping announced this reform. Now after 40 years, I think this is a second, such a big commitment for a much wider opening and much reform. All the systems must be compatible with the international standard.

I congratulate you, President Xi. For this new era that you have identified; for the openness that we are celebrating; for the innovation and inclusiveness that you have encouraged. So as you have been very practical, let me advocate for the benefit of closing, closing a few gaps—because it can help China’s openness strategy.

I think President Xi Jinping's speech is worth studying for us. It can be seen as an overall principle in promoting our social development. The value it delivers can be applied not only to the development of a single region or a single nation, but also to the development of the whole world. In his speech, Mr. Xi gave us some particular examples about how to deepen social reforms such as opening the markets of service, finance, and insurance, as well as seeking more cooperation in such fields as automobile manufacturing, aeronautical manufacturing and ship-building. It provides good chances for Russia to cooperate with China, especially in the fields where the two sides have just started working together.
- Andrey Denisov, Russian Ambassador to China
China's is going to open up and reduce tariffs on automobiles, that could be a very positive thing. If they're going to open up in investment and insurance and financial markets, it could be very positive given [what's happening] in the United States and in particular to other TWO members.

I think that this morning's speech revealed a lot of key information. There is no winner in the pursuit of protectionism. Therefore, the best way out is international cooperation and openness.
- Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former French Prime Minister
This is an important speech on openness and it also sends a clear message to the world. I really appreciate this kind of speech. We now really need to make some basic efforts to control the world anti-globalization. President Xi’s clear information on opening up is not only for Asia but also for the world.

Those reforms have been strengthened and deepened and broadened in that visionary speech we hear this morning. That changes China and changes the world.
- Bob Carr, former Australian foreign Minister
At a time when the United States' policies have threatened to upset the stability of the world order, China's growing confidence and its verbal support of global trade rules offer other countries a potentially appealing alternative to Mr. Trump's rhetoric.
