Harvey Dzodin, a research fellow with the Center for China and Globalization, said he was very impressed by Xi Jinping’s speech at the opening of the 19th CPC National Congress and learned a lot from it.
“It does have a comprehensive red print for China’s future, not only the future through 2020, but through the middle of the century,” he said.
Dzodin said he believed that when China achieves its aim of becoming a moderately prosperous society, it will be one of the world’s leading countries.
A “new era” for socialism with Chinese characteristics was one of the buzzwords from Xi’s speech, but Dzodin believed that concept actually started five years ago.
“I believe it will continue to accelerate,” he said, “China will wrap up its safety, governance, its ability to clean up its environment and to tackle the other issues China needs to tackle.”
China stepping to the center of the global stage, is something Dzodin expects to happen in the coming years, particularly in the fields of technology and innovation.
“China will devote a great amount of money, resources and organizations to basic and applied research. It’s already a trend that’s beginning,” he said.
